USA Field Hockey is offering an online Starter and Local Level Umpire Clinic that will start Monday, August 10 and comprise three sessions.

After very well attended and successful online clinics held each spring and fall (in addition to the indoor online clinic held each December), USA Field Hockey’s Officials Manager Brian Tyson will continue the opportunity for others to learn the key aspects of umpiring. He will share some of the key building blocks, tools and ideas that one should possess when developing into a good, consistent umpire. Many of the concepts shared will be beneficial to not only umpires but also coaches, athletes and parents looking to understand and enjoy the game even more.

Each session of the Starter and Local Level Umpire Clinic will take place from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. ET. All sessions will be presented using Zoom and the link will be shared with registered participants once registration closes. Those registered but unable to attend the interactive sessions will be able to access recordings for a week after each session.

The cost of the Starter and Local Level Umpire Clinic is $25 for USA Field Hockey Members and $50 for non-USA Field Hockey Members. The cost for current high school and college athletes (members and non-members) will also be $25. Registration is now open and will close on Monday, August 12 at 11:59 a.m. ET (noon).

Topics to be covered by USA Field Hockey’s Officials Manager, Brian Tyson:

Module 1: Monday, August 10 - Positioning, Signals and Communication

Module 2: Wednesday, August 12 - Infringements, Free Hits, Danger and Aerials

Module 3: Friday, August 14 - Penalty Corners, Penalty Strokes and Personal Penalties

For questions, please contact Brian Tyson at btyson@usafieldhockey.com

Many thanks,

Baltimore County Public Schools requires ALL officials to be background checked and fingerprinted prior to working ANY game at a BCPS school. Officials who are current employees of BCPS do not need to be fingerprinted. Send a picture of a valid BCPS photo ID to your assignors

Click the PDF link below to download the instructions. Take page 7 with you when you get fingerprinted. When done send pages 2 and 3 to the BCPS contact. You should receive a letter from the Md Department of Corrections within a few days and should receive your card from BCPS a few days after you receive the letter. Take a picture of the fingerprint card and send to your assignor. DON'T wait until August as there will be potential delays in processing the card. Don't trust another organization to handle the paperwork flow for you. It's best to do everything on your own to be 100% sure it's completed. Contact your sports chair if you have any questions.
